The timeless wedding music of Tony Bennett

Tony Bennett died this past week at the age of 96. In considering his seven decade singing career, something stands out: his fan base was ridiculously broad. You wouldn’t think young music lovers (like you) would be the least bit interested in an aging crooner, but they were. And the wedding music of Tony Bennett was truly timeless.

Mr. Bennett sang duets with a who’s who of the entertainment elite of all ages, including Barbra Streisand, Christina Aguilera, and Michael Bublé. But his most notable collaborations late in his career were with Lady Gaga, with whom he sang his final set of concerts in 2021. Amazing … Bennett had been diagnosed with a very cruel disease, Alzheimer’s, and yet he didn’t miss a beat.

So, what are his timeless wedding songs? The list is too long, because he sang just about all of the best love songs ever recorded. But his duets were really something, so let’s take a look at a few, beginning with Lady Gaga.

I’ve Got You Under My Skin

It Had to Be You

This is a charming first dance song, an exceptional duet featuring country star, Carrie Underwood, singing an enduring, one-hundred year-old song:

Our Love is Here to Stay

This is the last song written by George Gershwin before his untimely death. His brother, Ira, wrote lyrics that are simply beautiful to dance to, and Tony and Diana Krall express its simple truth in this timeless interpretation:

The Way You Look Tonight

Mr. Bennett teamed up with another country star, Faith Hill, to create a memorable rendition of this jazz standard composed by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields:

The Best is Yet to Come

The Latin pop star, Chayanne, joined Tony in the studio to record the irresistible love song, The Best is Yet to Come. These lyrics are totally fun:

Out of the tree of life I just picked me a plum;

You came along and everything started to hum;

Still, it’s a real good bet, the best is yet to come.

 In the hands of these two artists, you’ve got a first-dance song that will dazzle your guests:
